Privacy policy

Somnipeptide is a reading site, not an account-based service. We keep data collection light, and this page explains exactly what happens when you visit.

What information do we collect?

Very little, and only if you let us. We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not run our own login, comments, or newsletter. If you agree to analytics, we use Google Analytics 4 to see how the site is used in aggregate — which pages get read, roughly where traffic comes from (an approximate region derived from your IP address, which Google does not store for us), and general device and browser details. That is it.

Do you use cookies?

Yes, for analytics. This is a US site and runs on an opt-out basis: under Google Consent Mode v2 analytics storage is granted when the page loads, and the banner tells you rather than asking. Advertising storage stays denied at all times, so no ad cookies are set here at all. The one thing we always store is your own choice — kept in your browser's local storage under the cookie-consent key — so we don't badger you with the banner on every page. That value lives on your device, not on our servers, which makes the setting per browser and per device.

How do we use what we collect?

To understand what readers find useful and to make the site better — which articles to expand, what to fix, where people lose the thread. We look at trends in the aggregate, not at individuals. We do not use this data to build advertising profiles, and we do not try to personally identify you.

Do you sell my data or share it with anyone?

No. We do not sell your personal information, full stop. The main third party involved is Google, which processes analytics data on our behalf when you've consented; your visit is governed by Google's own privacy terms once that data reaches them. When you click an outbound link to a partner or vendor, you leave this site and their privacy practices take over — we'd encourage you to read theirs too.

What choices and rights do I have?

You're in control. The button below turns analytics off for this browser, immediately and without a reload: Consent Mode goes to denied, GA4 stops identifying the session, and the Google Analytics cookies already here are deleted. Clearing this site's data (or deleting the cookie-consent entry) returns you to the default. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access or delete personal data and to opt out of its “sale” — and since we don't sell data and store no personal profiles, there is very little to hold, but you're welcome to email us to exercise any of these rights.

What about children?

This site is written for adults. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18 (or under 13 in particular). If you believe a child has provided us data through the analytics described above, email us and we'll see that it is removed.

How long do you keep data, and is it secure?

The aggregate analytics Google holds are retained according to Google's standard analytics retention settings, after which they are aggregated or deleted. Your consent flag stays on your own device until you clear it. We serve this site over encrypted HTTPS and keep the data footprint deliberately small — the less we collect, the less there is to protect. No method of transmission or storage is ever perfectly secure, though, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

Will this policy change?

It may, as the site or the tools we use evolve. The current version always lives at this address, and meaningful changes will be reflected here. Reading on after an update means you're comfortable with the revised policy.
